5 Things to Love About Senior Living

Posted on: June 21st, 2017 by hhmin

Getting older isn’t something most people like to think about. It can be scary and full of unknowns. For whatever reason, aging is something people avoid talking about with others. Senior living is a topic that has a negative connotation attached to it and it’s unfortunate because there’s a lot to look forward to as we get older. To bring a positive light to aging, we’re sharing 5 things to love about senior living.

Doing What You Enjoy

Transitioning to retirement can be a huge adjustment for most people. Recognizing the good things that come with it can help make the transition easier. If you’ve been working a 9-5 job for the last 40 years, you’ll certainly appreciate having your days open to do what you love. Instead of waiting for the weekend, you’ll be able to get your time in on the golf course during your weekdays.

Senior Living Lets You Travel

Finding time to travel when you have a full-time job is difficult. When you live in senior living community, you can pack up and go whenever you want. Many retirees sell their homes and use some of the money to go RVing around the country. Others enjoy traveling abroad to exotic places. Getting older means more freedom to go where you want!

Try the Things You’ve Always Wanted To Do

Most people have always wanted more time to try new things like sailing, painting, or even baking. Once you’ve retired, you finally have the time to try new hobbies! Keeping your mind active by learning and doing new things is one of the best ways to combat mental and physical aging. At our Independent Living community, we love to see that our residents are getting out and staying active.

More Time With Family

If you’re a grandparent, you probably enjoy spending time and making lasting memories with your grandkids. During the summer months in our Houston Senior Living Community, many of our residents take their grandchildren out during the week and do fun activities around the city. Time with family is what most people want more of, and now you have the luxury of it.

Creating Your Own Schedule

Living under the constant constraints of your job schedule can really make everyday life less enjoyable. Senior living lets you make your own schedule- or not have one at all! You can wake up when you want, go to bed when you choose, and make plans in the middle of the day. Retirement living lets you do whatever you want when you want.

Independent living communities are popping up all over the country as more and more active seniors are choosing to live in close-knit communities designed for them. At Holly Hall, our independent living community is where many retired residents have chosen to call home, and we couldn’t be more excited! Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions about communities like this and we’re here to bust the top 5 myths associated with Independent Living.

Myth 1: Independent Living Will Be Boring

For whatever reason, people associate retirement communities with being boring. That’s simply not the case, especially here at Holly Hall. our community comes together for various events throughout the week to add a little variety to our resident’s days. Many community members even plan their own events and meet ups every week.

Myth 2: Retirement Communities Look Like Hospitals

A community should never resemble anything like a hospital and our community certainly doesn’t. Whether a resident chooses assisted living or Independent Living, we strive to make sure that our senior community feels and looks like home.

Myth 3: I Won’t Be Able to Keep My Car

If you want to drive, then you can keep your car! Independent living is all about maintaining independence, not giving it up. Many of our residents keep their cars and still opt to use our transportation system if they don’t feel like driving sometimes. We give our residents options and that’s one of the best things about living at Holly Hall.

Myth 4: My Family Won’t Visit Me

We completely understand this fear because for many potential residents, it’s very real. One of the ways our retirement community tries to bring families together is through community events with activities that are appropriate for kids. When grandkids have something to keep them busy, family visits become much more frequent and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Myth 5: Independent Living Communities are Too Expensive

This is one of the most common concerns we hear. Luckily, we offer independent living floor plans in a variety of sizes and price ranges to suit most budgets and needs. Retiring shouldn’t be focused on worrying about money, but living an active, exciting lifestyle with friends.
