Fall Activities That Bring Retirement Communities Together

Posted on: October 12th, 2016 by hhmin

After a long, hot summer, everyone looks forward to the cooler temperatures that fall brings every year. Although Texas may not enjoy these temperatures until much later on in the season, we certainly embrace the fun fall-themed activities that come around every season here at Holly Hall Retirement Community in Houston. Our adult senior independent living community loves to get together for events and to celebrate each season. We think retirement should be fun and exciting, and we want our residents to feel the same way. Here are a few fun fall activities that residents always enjoy.

Oktoberfest For Independent Living Residents

Since Texas has many German influences intermixed with it’s western identity, many Texans enjoy celebrating the sights, sounds, and tastes of Oktoberfest. Our seniors sample many different German beers in traditional “beer tents” and get their fill of delicious German food like bratwurst or schnitzel. Many also sport laederhosen for fun! Holly Hall hosts an Oktoberfest event for our senior living residents that always brings a crowd. Social drinking events are an easy way to get people together for some laid back, relaxing fun.

Cooking Demonstrations

Events like these are fun to do throughout the year, but our favorite time to do them is during the fall. Making traditional fall dishes like apple pie, sweet potato casserole, and even pressing apple cider will always be a big hit for residents. Our October cooking demo is focused on creating pumpkin creme brûlée. This dish, although normally served at fancier restaurants, is the perfect thing to make that will have any senior living community in awe. Better yet, Holly Hall has it on their dining menu every month!

Holly Hall Senior Living Indoor Football Tailgate

Here in Houston, Texas, football is king! Your residents will love getting together to watch a good football game with all of the classic tailgating food. Gather everyone together and enjoy loading up your plates with things like chili, chips and dip, and a veggie tray. If you have residents that love to cook, consider doing a chili cook off. Nothing gets people excited like a little friendly competition! Holly Hall is conveniently located across the street from NRG Stadium, where the Texans play. When the Texans make the playoffs, we host many football themed events that our community looks forward to!

Trick-or-Treating

Your seniors in independent living aren’t going to want to go door-to-door in costumes, but they probably miss having trick-or-treaters coming to their homes. Have staff bring their children for an evening of trick-or-treating in the retirement community. Residents will love passing out candy to the kids and seeing their cute costumes. Your staff will also enjoy being able to incorporate their families into their daily work life. It’s a win for everyone!
